Our source

Volcanic soil.
Kagoshima.

Grown in the mineral-rich soil of southern Japan, our matcha is shade-grown, hand-picked at first flush, and slowly stone-milled to a fine powder. Not processed. Not blended. Pure Kagoshima ceremonial grade.

01

Stone-milled

Traditional granite mills produce finer texture and a brighter, more vibrant colour.

02

First-flush leaves

Spring's first harvest yields the highest L-theanine content and the smoothest taste.

03

Certified organic

No synthetic inputs, no pesticides. The volcanic soil does the work.

What makes Refined Matcha different?+

Refined Matcha is sourced from first-flush tea leaves grown in Kagoshima, Japan and stone-milled for exceptional smoothness.

The volcanic soil of Southern Japan creates a naturally rich flavour profile with vibrant colour, deep umami, and minimal bitterness. Every batch is carefully selected to meet our standards for taste, texture, and quality.

Why is ceremonial matcha more expensive?+

Ceremonial grade matcha is made from carefully shaded first-harvest tea leaves and produced using traditional methods.

After harvesting, the leaves are slowly stone-milled into an ultra-fine powder, helping preserve their flavour, colour, and aroma. The combination of limited harvests, skilled craftsmanship, and exceptional quality results in a matcha that is naturally sweeter, smoother, and more vibrant than lower grades.

What does matcha taste like?+

High-quality matcha has a smooth, creamy taste with natural sweetness, balanced umami, and very little bitterness.

Refined Matcha is selected for its vibrant colour, rich flavour, and exceptionally smooth finish, making it enjoyable both traditionally and in lattes.

Does matcha contain caffeine?+

Yes. Matcha naturally contains caffeine, typically around 60–70mg per serving.

Unlike coffee, matcha also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that helps promote a calm and focused feeling. Together, they provide a smooth and sustained energy boost without the sudden peaks and crashes often associated with coffee.

How many servings are in one tin?+

Our 30g tin contains approximately 15 servings.

For the best experience, we recommend using around 2g of matcha per serving, depending on your preferred strength and preparation style.

How much matcha can I drink per day and is it safe?+

Most adults can comfortably enjoy 1–2 servings of matcha per day as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Matcha contains naturally occurring caffeine, so individual tolerance may vary. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or sensitive to caffeine, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional.

How should I store my matcha?+

Store your matcha in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.

Once opened, keep the container tightly sealed. For maximum freshness, colour, and flavour, we recommend consuming it within 4–8 weeks after opening.

Do you offer wholesale?+

Yes. We supply premium ceremonial matcha to cafés, restaurants, studios, offices, and retailers across Europe.

Wholesale partners receive access to high-quality matcha, competitive pricing, and dedicated support. To learn more, contact us at hello@refinedmatcha.com.
